I like to begin by meeting with you once or twice to look at your current problems and recent events.  I also ask about your youth and development, personal strengths, social and work life, relationships, past treatment, and important medical conditions. Together, we begin to clarify your priorities and create a practical and flexible plan for our work.

My practice offers the opportunity for regular talk therapy.  I believe therapy offers patients a great chance to make lasting changes in their lives, while enhancing satisfaction and lowering distress. My main job is to create a safe and supportive space where patients can speak freely about their hopes and fears, achievements and failures, self-discovery and forward progress.  While I tailor my approach to each person, I generally use psychodynamic techniques, integrated with methods from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

I have extensive experience prescribing psychiatric medications, which is sometimes called medication management. For some patients, medications can be very helpful in treating symptoms and disorders, thereby enabling them to profit from counseling and to function better in many areas. As a physician, I offer the convenience of combining medication and therapy for better outcomes.  I prescribe with great care—and always explain how medications work and what to expect in terms of benefits and possible risks.
